Nicole Kidman's UNIFEM Haiti Visit

Acting as a UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador, the "Eyes Wide Shut" actress joined UNIFEM Executive Director Ins Alberdi in meeting with a schoolteacher who now conducts educational activities with children situated in temporary shelters following the devastating earthquake which struck the Caribbean country early this year.
The trip to Haiti comes just after Miss Kidman took part in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Installation Luncheon in Beverly Hills on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh MC admits Rick Ross' own label offer was 'a huge honor' and opens up about Twitter, tattoos and more on our live stream sit-down.By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Wiz Khalifa was voted by fans as MTV's "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010" and he opened up to his Taylor Gang following during the "RapFive Live" broadcast on Friday (July 30). The Pittsburgh MC addressed everything from his relationship with Rick Ross to his new major-label deal to living at home with moms.
Sporting a gray-and-white tank and showing hometown love in a Pittsburgh Kings cap, the MC kicked off the live stream by accepting the actual trophy for his "Hottest Breakthrough" win and shouted out his fans saying, "Y'all did this." Khalifa then broke down the Taylor Gang movement and urged other rising rappers to utilize social media to build a hard-core fanbase. Wiz even gave some social media tips to Twitter newbie Kanye West.
"Just totally be yourself, 'Ye. Don't hold nothin' back," Khalifa said. "Be careful but just be a character. Have fun — people love that."
Khalifa fielded questions via Twitter and video uploads throughout the show and broke down his favorite ink to one fan: a wrist tattoo in the shape of a stamp imprinted with the words "self made" which he said represents how he built his career from humble beginnings.
"There's neighborhoods that look like third-world countries," Khalifa said of growing up in Pittsburgh. "We didn't have a lot but my mom made sure that we didn't worry about all that stuff. We was rich in love and I had my music and everything that I wanted. Of course, we didn't have food in the house, we had to make stuff out of other things. I had two pairs of pants to wear to school. To me, it was bigger than that and I think that's where I'm at now, because I took those times and I made the best out of it."
Even though he's selling out tours, turning heads in the industry and cultivating a rabid fanbase, the MC revealed that he lives with his mother in his hometown in a spot the rapper dubs "The Bakery."
"That's where the goods are stashed," Khalifa smiled. "You come through and smell the aroma from down the street."
The MC also revealed that he doesn't hide his weed use from his mother, who has apparently influenced the Kush-toking star in several ways.
"She knows about the bakery and she's a master chef herself," Khalifa grinned. "I had to get my recipes from somewhere." However, Wiz insisted he picked up his habit on his own. "She never forced baking on me," Khalifa said.
His penchant for marijuana is a major theme in his music but the artist quickly squashed any notions that he would pick up and move just to have legal access to his favored herb. "I love the fact that kush is legal in Cali but if I move out there it won't just be to [smoke] weed," Khalifa said. "It'll be for work and business and that'll be a perk."
Work has been on the uptick since the MC struck out on his own in 2009 after a deal with Warner Bros. failed to result in a major-label release. The rapper described a nonstop hustle that includes everything from grinding in the studio to editing his YouTube videos. To his dedicated Taylor Gang, Khalifa has been owning the indie hip-hop scene and the lyricist said he has witnessed amped-up fans jump out of cars, tail him across town and even kiss his hand. But Wiz admitted that he's surprised by all of the attention.
"If I go to a show ...I'm just expecting it to be a couple hundred. Then they're like, 'It's sold out. There's people passed out in the street crying with their knees bleeding because they can't get in. I'm like, 'What?' " Khalifa said. "There's ambulances at every one of my shows before I get there. For what, I don't know."
In a move that probably frustrated many of his female followers, Khalifa sidestepped a fan question about his romantic life.
"As far as ladies, go, I keep my options open. I keep my business to myself, though, so if ... I was with someone nobody would know," Khalifa said. "For me, as young as I am, I gotta stay single. I gotta stay focused, I gotta stay working. I gotta look available because chicks like you to look available."
Wiz was much more forthcoming about his favorite rappers and called out Rick Ross and frequent collaborator Curren$y as artists he's really into. Khalifa also talked about how he first hooked up with Curren$y.
"I hit him on MySpace ... I'm like, 'Yo, I see what you doing, let's link up.' It was when I was working on Flight School I think ... and he was working on This Ain't No Mixtape," Khalifa said. "With me and Spitta, it was like, he had his brain and I had my brain. With the Jets, he had his thing, and I got my thing with the Taylors so it was like, 'Let's combine or at least just do a song and see how people like it.' I flew down to New Orleans and we ended up being the same dude, smoking and rapping about the same stuff."
On the subject of possibly inking a deal with his other favorite rapper and fellow "RapFix Live" alum, Rick Ross, the P-Town MC was flattered that the Miami Bawse had considered bringing him into the Maybach Music fold.
"It's a huge honor for him to even extend a hand like that," Wiz said after seeing a video of Ross asking what it would take for Khalifa to sign to his label. "Even if it ain't no paperwork between me and Ross, it's gonna be work done between me and Ross."
Khalifa did have news about his record label home and confirmed that he is signing a deal with Atlantic Records. "I wanted to make sure that I had records that I was comfortable with before I went to any label or any situation."

'I was so happy that she's back,' pal tells MTV News at Angelina's 'Jersey Shore' viewing party.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Ignacio Guzman

Angelina came back to the "Jersey Shore" this season, and drama followed. But her supporters — including her friends, family and fans who showed at the Fushimi Japanese Cuisine & Lounge in Staten Island, New York, where Angelina was holding a premiere viewing party — think that it was the perfect time for their girl to make her return to the show.
"I was so happy that she's back on the show and that she went to Miami and that she had fun," pal Gina Landano told MTV News. "I spoke to her every once in awhile while she was there, and she told me she was having fun with all the guys there."
Angelina's mom, Ann Marie Pivarnick, excitedly reacted to her daughter's second season on the hit reality show. "I'm very proud of her, that she went back," she said. "And she was trying her best to get along with the cast."
Another one of her pals, Johnny Donovan, teased what he thinks will happen as season two gets under way. "What I expect to happen this season is a lot of crazy drama, a lot of situations, a lot of fist-pumping down in Jersey," he said. "A lot of crazy, jam-packed action in Miami Beach like you'd never expect."
Drama seemed to be the overarching theme of fan expectations at the party. "I mean, you can tell there's a lot of drama, that's what the show is based on, but it's just exciting to see exactly what goes on there in Miami," Shimon said. "You never know what's going to happen down there."
Heck, Angelina gave some hints as to what fans can expect from her as the season rolls on. "This season you can expect, basically, me to show my emotions more," she said. "I'm trying to show that I have a good side too. I want people out there to know that I do have a sweet side."
"Jersey Shore" airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Be there!

Celebrities React To Ellen DeGeneres' 'American Idol' Exit
'The show will be fine,' season nine winner Lee DeWyze tweeted.By Kara Warner

Reaction to Ellen DeGeneres' announcement that she was departing "American Idol" was swift, with fans and bloggers eager to express their thoughts as soon as the news became public on Thursday (July 29). The talk show host's former "Idol" colleagues, Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest, weighed in as well.
Other celebrities have also joined the conversation, voicing reactions and well wishes. "Idol" season-six third-place finisher Melinda Doolittle was shocked by the news. "I feel like I was tweeting this exact thing around this time last year," she tweeted. "DUDE!
Ellen?!?! DUDE!!!!!"
Doolittle later chimed in with her thoughts on rumored replacements Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. "Randy=my dawg, J.Lo=the best mentor on season 6, & Steven Tyler=my favorite band EVER! If these really are the AI judges, what do you think?" she tweeted to her followers, followed by her number one pick for the judges panel: "PS-I'm not saying these are my choices for judges. I just happen to love all of them. I'm kinda still holding out for Harry Connick, Jr. :-)"
Last season's champ, Lee DeWyze, also took to Twitter to offer a few words on how DeGeneres' departure may affect the show. "The show will be fine," he tweeted in reply to a fan.
Fellow talk show host Conan O'Brien weighed in as well. "Ellen has walked away from a television institution after one year, but I'm sure it's the right decision," O'Brien tweeted about the news, perhaps slyly referencing his own highly-publicized departure from "The Tonight Show" last year. "Now, back to my model rocketry," he wrote.
And finally, Paris Hilton showed Perez Hilton some Twitter love with a support of his dogged personal campaign to join the judges' table.
"You would be Perfect on American Idol with your witty humor and music sense," she tweeted to Perez. "I'd definitely watch! Loves it!

Joss Whedon Is The 'Right Thing' For 'Avengers,' Marvel Boss Says
'We hire directors who have the potential to do great things,' Kevin Feige tells MTV News.By Kara Warner

For comic book fans, and those who love comic book movies in general, Marvel Studio's major "Avengers" announcement and cast unveiling at last week's San Diego Comic-Con still has heads reeling. From the unveiling of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye to seeing director Joss Whedon smiling with his star-studded cast — there was a lot to take in.
When MTV News caught up with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige during our Comic-Con live stream, no one was more excited to talk about the highly anticipated film and, specifically, the qualifications of fan-favorite director Joss Whedon. We asked him how they made the decision to hire Joss despite his having only directed one feature film (2005's "Serenity").
"I've known Joss for many years. We were looking for the right thing and he came in and met on it," Feige explained. "As you've already heard him say on his panels, he's incredibly intelligent, he's got great things to say about it, and if you look at the directors we've worked with, we hire directors who have the potential to do great things and we want our film to be that great thing."
Feige cited "Thor" helmer Kenneth Branagh and "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau as perfect examples of Marvel's hiring decisions. "Whether it's Branagh who of course has done some great things, whether it's Favreau, who did some fun movies prior to 'Iron Man,' we want to find a director that's on the verge of doing something great, as we think Joss is."
"The Avengers," starring Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner is slated for release in 2012.

Chely Wright Thanks Hollywood for Support Since Coming Out
Country singer Chely Wright has lived in the public eye for years with her music career, but privately, she felt like she was "hiding." Until recently she kept her sexual origin a secret before bravely coming out on "The Today Show." "I feel like my life was in black and white before coming out and now with the help of the LGBT community, my life is now in color," she told an assembly of students at a school safety summit. On behalf of The Gay Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, she led a focus group to tell adolescents about her journey to publicly acknowledging her sexuality. "I'm in awe of these young people and that at such young ages they have the great sense of self to stand up and they understand who they are and they're willing to fight for it. It's also a great testament to GLSEN and the great work that they've done," she told ET.

'Jersey Shore' Cast Land Clothing Lines, Books Deals
As season two of the 'Jersey Shore' kicks off, find out what else the crew is up to! By Jocelyn Vena
JWoww
Photo: MTV News
Sure, the cast of "Jersey Shore" are back to "beat the beat" for the show's second season, this time in Miami, but the crew is also hard at work on a number of other projects. These are the things that keep them busy when they aren't partying the night away or doing gym, tan and laundry.
Two of the ladies from the show are designing clothing lines. JWoww just launched her Filthy Couture line, which she said is inspired by the show. "[The name] Filthy Couture came from people of the 'Jersey Shore,' " JWoww said about her line of bedazzled party dresses and lingerie-inspired beachwear. "The 'Jersey Shore' is a bunch of fist-pumpers and guidos and guidettes, and we all listen to the same type of music, which is house music, and everyone on the show says 'filthy beats' and that's where I kind of came up with it."
Like JWoww, her pal Snooki is also working on a clothing line, but she's also looking for other ways to expand her empire. "That concerns me a little bit," she said about oversaturating the market with all things Snooki. "That's why I'm trying to do as much as I can right now. I have a clothing line coming out and then my hair [line] is Snook-it, [using] hairspray and a teasing comb," she said. "My book's coming out about how I view the world. I don't want to put everything out at once."
Meanwhile, two male members of the cast have musical aspirations. Vinny is working on his rap career. "A lot of people don't know this, but I write rap songs," Vinny told the Chicago Tribune. "It's more clubbish. I don't sound like the average rapper — I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing. There may be Pitbull-type songs."
DJ Pauly D is, well, a DJ. And while he's displayed his skills in the video for Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It" video, he's also been nominated in the annual America's Best DJ competition. So, how good is he? "What he is able to do with his hands and two turntables is utterly incredible," his MySpace bio boasts. "He strides in keeping the dance floor moving and the way he feeds off their energy is fascinating."
While it seems like The Situation's full-time job is making sure his situation stays ab-tastic, word is that Mike Sorrentino, as his parents know him, is hard at work on a video inspired by his own workout routine. The Situation is also reportedly working on a book, aptly titled "Here's the Situation."

Alice In Chains, Mastodon Talk BlackDiamondSkye Tour, The 'Almond Joy' Of Hard Rock
'You get three great flavors on one tour,' Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell jokes.By James Montgomery

Photo: Barry Brecheisen/ WireImage
When it was first announced back in April, the BlackDiamondSkye Tour — which brings together three titans of hard rock: Alice in Chains, Deftones and Mastodon — instantly became a must-see show of the fall. But now, with something like two months until the first date, it's starting take on another mantle too: It may very well be the most delicious tour in recent memory.
"You've got three bands that are pretty distinct, you know, and pretty unique in their own way, and who have worked really hard at throwing out some music. And we're gonna throw it all out together," Alice in Chains mastermind Jerry Cantrell told MTV News. "It's better than a Reese's. You know, Reese's, you get two great tastes together ... we're kind of like an Almond Joy. You get almonds, chocolate and coconut, so you get three great flavors on one tour."
"It's interesting you say that," Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor joked. "Because we are currently seeking sponsorship for the tour, and I think Almond Joy would be a great one."
Someone should get the folks from Hershey's on the phone, stat. And while the guys are joking, they do make a rather important point: BlackDiamondSkye may very well be the, uh, sweetest tour to come down the pike in a long time, at least for fans of hard rock. Three heavyweight acts with three really excellent back catalogs to draw from, all sharing one stage. It'll be epic, for sure ... as long as the fans of each band can co-exist.
"I don't think that's gonna be a problem," Cantrell smiled. "We all have a fanbase that's been loyal to the band, and I think that as much as we're all unique as groups, I think we have a lot of overlap too. We're all about good music — not just creating it, but being a fan of it, too — so, for me, I'm excited to finally see each of these bands play a full set. It's gonna be cool to check these guys out."
"And get in the pit too. That'll be great," Dailor cracked. "I don't know about you guys, but I'm going in there. I got my leather pants, and I don't need a shirt, so I'm ready."

Mel Gibson's Latest Audio: 'I Just Want to Do the Right Thing'
In a new audio recording made public by RadarOnline, Mel Gibson leaves a much subdued voicemail to his ex Oksana Grigorieva in which he says he has concerns for her and the couple's baby and states that he wants to discuss "how we go further."
In the new 54-second voicemail -- which RadarOnline says was made the day after an enraged Gibson left dozens of expletive-laden messages for Grigorieva -- the actor uses no profanity, sounds drained and at times slurs his speech.
"Hi, I'm just calling, to, umm to check on, ah, your status -- the status of, um, bubby -- the baby," Mel says. He adds: "I want to talk reasonably about schedules and how we -- I haven't got a voice left -- how we go further, ummmm -- just reasonably."

President Barack Obama chatted with the ladies of "The View," opening up about the females in his own home, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia.
Obama recalls a high point of his month, saying, "A couple of days we took in Maine with Michelle and Sasha and Malia.
We went on bike rides and hikes and the girls are getting old enough now where they?re not quite teenagers yet, so they still like you, but they are full of opinions and ideas and observations and it?s just a great age. Malia just turned 12 and Sasha just turned nine and it couldn?t have been a better couple of days."

Nicki Minaj Explains Her Violent Death In 'Your Love' Video
Plus, the Young Money siren toys with different titles for her debut album.By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Matt Elias
Nicki Minaj
Photo: MTV News
Nicki Minaj's "Your Love" video has been out for several days, so by now you should know that the lovely Young Money siren kicks the bucket at the end of the clip. During a sword fight with her female rival, Nicki's character, a martial arts student who's in love with her sensei (played by Michael Jai White), comes out on the losing end when she catches some powder to the face and a sharp blade to the gut. Last week in Los Angeles, Nicki explained why she wanted to have a fatal attraction in the video.
"I just felt like that was the most emotional and truthful storyline," Minaj explained. "I felt like mostly everyone would normally make themselves win in the end. I wanted to show that the only way I could be beat is if you cheat. If you cheat! If you play fair and square, I'm gonna win. It's my little way of looking at it. Also, I felt it was almost heart-wrenching to see it. I made myself this nice girl in the video and you bond with the character, you know what I mean? You know what I mean. You see her die. I wanted people to talk about it in the end. 'Why did she make that decision?' I wanted them to cry."
Nicki's fans will be crying tears of joy when her long-anticipated debut album hits stores. She promises the project will be out before the end of the year, and she's focusing heavily on recording her own songs.
"Maybe a few things cooking," Nicki answered with a smile when asked if she has any more guest appearances coming up. "But right now, it's all about the album. November 23. Nothing comes before that." Then Nicki contemplated the title of her project.
"Maybe we should call it ... The Album," she ruminated. "Nicki Minaj: The Album," she continued before dismissing the idea. "I don't know, it'll come."
What do you think Nicki Minaj should call her new album? Let us know in the comments!

'Glee' Cast on Emmy Dresses and Dates, Themed Episodes, and Love Interests
Lea Michele and the rest of the Emmy nominated cast of "Glee" were very vocal Tuesday night at a TV Academy event in Hollywood to celebrate the astronomical success of their show.
Once inside, they continued to flex their vocal cords, treating the audience to musical performances. Self-proclaimed diva Jessalyn Gilsig, who left the harmonizing to the kids, said, "Anytime I get to come out and hear them perform live, I feel like I got a free ticket to a show I'd go to anyway."
While representing "Glee"'s 19 Emmy nominations at the August 29 awards show, Lea wants to look like a million bucks. Without revealing too many details, she spilled, "I had sort of been envisioning what I would want to look like on that night and I swear that I walked into my stylist's house and the dress what right there--the color, the feel." Costar Jayma Mays is considering a more frugal look. "Maybe I'll go to Ross Dress for Less tomorrow and see what I can find," said the deal-finding star.

She?s been mounting a massive attack on her ex-boyfriend/babydaddy Mel Gibson over his violent and threatening phone calls, but Oksana Grigorieva may have hit a snag.
With police paying a visit to her home earlier today (July 28), the scorned Russian musician is now in the market for a new publicist now that Steve Jaffe has left her hanging.
According to a report, Oksana couldn?t afford Jaffe?s services, though another source insists that Grigorieva is the one who sent him packing.
No matter what happened, one thing?s for sure- Oksana had better hire another publicist pronto if she?s going to win the custody battle against Gibson.

Old Spice Guy Tackles Jennifer Aniston Film
Isaiah Mustafa, the muscle man who's been know to extol the virtues of Old Spice at top volume on TV, has joined Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman's new comedy 'Horrible Bosses.'
"It's a smaller role, but who wouldn't want to be in one of these funny, irreverent comedies? The cast is great," Mustafa tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm playing a cop because I play these authoritative characters well. I don't know exactly who I'm in the scene with -- maybe Jennifer Aniston!"
'Horrible Bosses' also stars Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell and is slated to hit theaters next July.

Eminem Edges Out Rick Ross To Hold Billboard #1 For Fifth Week
Ross' Teflon Don debuts at #2.By Gil Kaufman

Rick Ross may have called his new album Teflon Don, but his nonstick verses weren't slick enough to knock the crown off of Eminem's head. With a barely perceptible four percent slip from the week before, Slim Shady's Recovery is looking bulletproof, as it will lodge a fifth straight week at #1 on sales of 187,000, helping the album blow by the 1.6 million mark, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
That means the Bawse will have to settle for a #2 bow for Don, which moved 176,000 copies, landing it well ahead of the next highest debut, Sheryl Crow's 100 Miles From Memphis (#3, 55,000).
The only other new faces in the top 10 belonged to the 18th edition of the Kidz Bop series (#5, 43,000) and the soundtrack to the new Disney Channel series "Jonas L.A.," which came in at #7 (32,000).
The rest of the top 10: Drake, Thank Me Later (#4, 47,000), Justin Bieber, My World 2.0 (#6, 39,000), Now 34 (#8 ,27,000), Lady Antebellum, Need You Now (25,000) and Lady Gaga, The Fame (#10, 24,000).
It was a short trip to the top for Korn, as Korn III:
Remember Who You Are sagged by 68 percent in week two as the nu-metal pioneers drop 11 spots to #13 (20,000). Meanwhile, former Police leader Sting's orchestral album, Symphonicities, suffered one of the week's biggest tumbles, shedding 61 percent of its first week's business as it falls 17 spots to #23 (14,000). The news was also not great for embattled singer M.I.A., whose divisive /\/\/\Y/\ also dropped 61 percent in week two as it skids 25 spots to #34 on sales of 11,000.
Further down the line, the soundtrack to MTV's own "Jersey Shore" fist-pumps its way to #55 (8,000), thanks to tracks by Enrique Iglesias with Pitbull, Taio Cruz, Ludacris, Lil Jon and LMFAO.
Over on the iTunes album and singles charts, Eminem continued his stranglehold, keeping the top spots on both locked down with Recovery and his hit collabo with Rihanna on "Love the Way You Lie." The singles chart doesn't look much different than last week, with Em followed by Cruz's "Dynamite," Iglesias' "I Like It," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," B.o.B's "Airplanes," Travie McCoy's "Billionaire," Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me,"
Jason Derulo's "Ridin' Solo" and Eminem's "Not Afraid." The only newcomer on that chart is Perry's latest single, "Teenage Dream."
While iTunes does not release sales figures, Eminem clearly did the digital trick, beating out Ross and Crow, who come in #2 and #3 as well, followed by the "Jonas" soundtrack, Drake, the "Inception" score, Jack Johnson's To the Sea, Lady Gaga, the early digital version of Avenged Sevenfold's Nightmare and the Black Keys' Brothers.
Eminem looks safe for another go-round on Billboard, as next week's chart debuts include new albums from Avenged Sevenfold, Dru Hill and the "Step Up 3D" soundtrack.

Rick Ross: Behold The Transformative Power Of The Teflon Don
The bearded Bawse's excess, from minks to Maybachs, amounts to an enthralling escape, in Bigger Than the Sound.By James Montgomery
Rick Ross
Photo: MTV News
This is me. This is Rick Ross. As you can probably guess, we don't exactly have a lot in common, but I am trying to change that. I don't really have a choice. Rick Ross is transforming my life.
Over the space of three months, he's released two stupendous projects — The Albert Anastasia EP (a mixtape, which, for reasons known only to him, is actually 13 tracks long) and Teflon Don, which, by the time you read this, will probably be sitting at #1 on the Billboard 200 — that made me start Googling stuff like "Big Meech" and "Larry Hoover".
He caused me to ponder just why some cocaine is nicknamed "Archie Bunker" (duh, because it's so white!), and walk around my apartment shouting "F--- the judge, prosecutor and the district attorney!" so loudly that my wife is starting to reconsider our marriage. He has even forced me to reconsider my feelings on Diddy.
Clearly, big things are afoot.
I'm not really sure why any of this is happening but I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way, as Teflon Don has received a groundswell of critical acclaim from a host of, shall we say, less than traditional media outlets. So it might be as simple as the fact that the album is really good. But there are plenty of really good albums released each year, and most of them don't get this kind of attention, so that may not entirely explain why Ricky is having his moment right now.
It could have something to do with the elaborate, wide-screen world he's created for himself — a downright "Scarfacian" sphere of swagger and sophistication — or the way he lumbers between those two extremes, oftentimes in the same song, and always convincingly so (a feat his contemporaries have yet to truly master). It might be the monolithic figure he cuts or the lengths he goes to in order to keep his granite-hard Boss persona intact (arriving at a strip club by helicopter was a genius touch), or the fact that, despite those things, he's still not afraid to release a song like "Tears of Joy," a complicated, (sorta) fragile pondering of his life of excess.
There are a million more reasons — his innate ability to positively destroy the first four bars of a song (see "Blowin' Money Fast (B.M.F.)"), his ability to bring out the best in dudes like Jay-Z ("Free Mason") and the aforementioned Diddy — and all of them are probably correct. But they all point to the same thing: Right now, there's no one as compelling as him, no one as multifaceted, no one as interesting. Sure, Eminem has released his million-selling mea culpa, Recovery, and whenever Kanye comes back, certainly the entire world will be waiting to hear what he has to say (and if his verse on Teflon Don's "Live Fast, Die Young" is any indication, he's gonna be plenty mad), but at the moment, Ross is Boss. At least for me.
And in a lot of respects, Teflon Don came to me at exactly the right time. For whatever reason, I find most rock music — or at least everything that goes into it — to be intolerably boring at the moment. Perhaps I've been around it for too long, have interviewed too many mumbling white dudes with beards, but I'm having a hard time feigning interest, no matter how great the efforts of the National or the Arcade Fire may be. Win Butler is no Rick Ross, after all. He's interminably real. Ross — with his minks and Maybachs, his tales of mansions and machine guns (be they real or imagined) — is downright fictional, like a character out of a movie. I don't care about his prison-guard past, or whether he actually moves keys of coke through Biscayne Bay, I just want to be entertained and enthralled, and if it's by an extra hefty man with a huge beard, well, then all the better.
So that probably explains why I've become obsessed. Maybe it means I'm regressing, but that doesn't bother me. After all, there was a time in my life when I loved pro wrestling too. And listening to Teflon Don is a lot like the WWE, only with more bullets. It's theater. It's art. It's awesome and everything I've been looking for. Because I don't want to be morose right now. I want to get "Super High." Give me fiction, give me fantasy, give me velvet-draped, cognac-drenched, caviar-wishes-and-cocaine dreams. Give me the Bawse. I'm ready too. I've already started growing the beard and everything.

Arcade Fire Team With Terry Gilliam For Madison Square Garden Livestream
Webcast streams from special YouTube page on August 5.By James Montgomery

The Arcade Fire's forthcoming The Suburbs, due August 3, is a very big record, one they're celebrating with a pair of very big shows at New York's Madison Square Garden. And somewhat fittingly, they've found a very big director to work with at those gigs.
According to The Associated Press, Terry Gilliam — the former "Monty Python" standout and the man behind such films as "Brazil," "12 Monkeys," "The Fisher King" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" — will direct a live webcast of the band's August 5 show at MSG, as part of a new series called "Unstaged."
The webcast of the show (the band's second of two at the Garden), will stream live on a special YouTube page at 10 p.m. ET. According to reports, the performance will feature "special guests" and will allow viewers to select multiple camera angles and submit photos of their own "suburbs," which may be featured on stage during the band's performance.
In an e-mail to MTV News, a spokesperson for the Arcade Fire confirmed that the band is working with Gilliam on the project.
The collaboration with Gilliam is just the latest instance of the Arcade Fire teaming with a high-profile director. Last year, they re-recorded a version of their song "Wake Up" for use in the trailer of Spike Jonze's "Where the Wild Things Are," and then, in April, a spokesperson for Jonze told MTV News that the director was returning the favor by shooting a "short film" for the Suburbs album.
So far, the Jonze-directed short has yet to surface. According to early reports, it was shot in Austin, Texas, apparently features "mostly late-teen actors" and revolves around a concept of "friends growing apart."

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green: Happily In Love
Teaming up for a busy day on the town, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green were spotted all over the Los Angeles area on Tuesday (July 27).
First heading to the personal trainer's house, the former "Beverly Hills 90210" star opened the door for his new wife as she hid her face from the cameras with a green hat.
After the morning sweat session and a change of clothes, a Voltron t-shirt clad Miss Fox was much more camera friendly as she and Brian grabbed lunch at Great Indian Cafe in Sherman Oaks.
Over the weekend, the pair got in some quality family time with Brian's son Kassius - as the trio made the trip to a local Thai BBQ eatery on Sunday.
Talking about Brian's son with ex Vanessa Marcil, Miss Fox previously told press, "I am a stepmother to the fullest extent. I have looked after Kassius since he was three and he has no memory of life without me."

Rihanna will take her first step into Hollywood with a role in director Peter Berg's science-fiction-tinged board-game adaptation, "Battleship."
There's no word on how her character factors into the story, but Variety confirms that the "Love the Way You Lie" singer is joining the cast that already includes Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård, who play brothers and naval officers assigned to a multinational task force charged with repelling alien invaders. Also cast is Tadanobu Asano, who is perhaps best known for his leading roles in "Ichi the Killer" and Genghis Khan biopic "Mongol."
Rihanna has yet to appear in a feature film, but she was the subject of a casting rumor in late 2008 that still persists. Wu-Tang member RZA told MTV News that he was co-producing a remake of martial arts classic "The Last Dragon" with Samuel L. Jackson, who is also set for a starring role. "That's the one I'm rooting for," RZA said at the time in reference to the potential Rihanna casting. "We're keeping that same concept of the girl being in the music business," he added, referring to one of the movie's plot points.
The pop singer is currently at the top of the charts with her Eminem collaboration, "Love the Way You Lie," and the track's video, featuring Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan, is expected to premiere this week.
Kitsch is no stranger to working with Peter Berg, with a leading role on the filmmaker's popular TV series, "Friday Night Lights." He'll star with Malin Akerman and Ryan Phillippe later this year in "The Bang Bang Club," and 2012 will see the release of his turn in "John Carter of Mars." Skarsgård is best known for his role on the hit HBO vampire series "True Blood." He's got a number of films lined up, including a remake of "Straw Dogs" and Lars Von Trier's "Antichrist" follow-up, "Melancholia."
Universal has set "Battleship" for release on May 25, 2012.

'The Bachelorette''s Ali Fedotowsky Rates Chris L. & Roberto for ET!
ET was behind the scenes of the "The Bachelorette: Men Tell All" where Ali Fedotowsky revealed to us just how she feels about her two remaining bachelors: Chris L. and Roberto. "I think with Chris he is funny," she tells ET. "He is a little quirky. He makes these comments that are sick and silly. He is such a family guy. [With Roberto], I think people could judge him because he's a super good-looking guy and an athlete. I sort of did when I first met him. Like, 'This guy is going to break my heart.' He turns out to be this genuine guy who would always be respectful of others. He wanted to tell me about his past but he never wanted to say too much because he wanted to be respectful of people he knew in the past. ?Two great guys." So does Chris have an advantage over Roberto because Ali has previously admitted to liking quirky guys? She won't say. What she does say is, "I always like guys that are interesting that maybe not every woman in America would be attracted to, but I would like because he is different."

Sam is pulled into the cyber universe after he receives a signal from the old Flynn's Arcade that he believes could have only come from his father.
ET caught up with Bridges at Comic-Con 2010, who said he had a blast returning to his famed sci-fi stomping ground: "That was a lot of fun getting together with my old buddy Steve Lisberger, the director and writer of the first one. And he was on board on this one, so he kept us all in line, making sure we were 'TRON-ing' properly."

Katy Perry Talks ?Teenage Dream?
From all indications, she?ll have another hit album on her hands this August when Teenage Dream hits stores, and Katy Perry?s second single is the album?s title track.
?Teenage Dream? debuted on radio and online outlets yesterday and Katy told press it was a very special song for her to write.
I wrote that song in Santa Barbara and it was a very pure moment for me, because that's where I'm from. And it was, like, where I started my creative juices.?
?And also it kind of exudes this euphoric feeling because everybody remembers what their teenage dreams were ? all the girls that were on your poster walls. And I want to continue to be one of those ... teenage wet dreams.?

Stars Confront Crazy Fans and Costumes at Comic-Con Party
The cast of "The Big Bang Theory" caused quite the commotion at Comic-Con. Even Jerry O'Connell took note of the hoopla at CBS and Entertainment Weekly's party. "You can't help but notice 'The Big Bang Theory' just dominating this entire [thing]," observed "The Defenders" and 'Piranha 3D' actor. "I think it's bigger than some of the movies coming in here and it's so funny because they play the people who are at this convention. It's like art imitating life imitating art." "The Big Bang Theory"'s Jim Parsons recalled a fan encounter, "I did get presented with a napkin last year by a fan and they asked me to wipe my mouth with it so that they would have my DNA, which was something that happened in the show. It wasn't like I'm Elvis. I didn't touch it to my mouth, Kaley [Cuoco] reminded me. She dabbed my forehead with it, which was much more safe and sanitary."

'Salt' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know
MTV News has been chasing down details on this Angelina Jolie thriller since it was announced.By Eric Ditzian
Angelina Jolie in "Salt"
Photo: Sony Pictures
Two thrillers will collide this weekend at the multiplex as Leonardo DiCaprio's current box-office champ "Inception" zooms into battle against Angelina Jolie's "Salt." Both flicks feature serious firearms, brutal hand-to-hand combat and enough high-tension stunts to have even an audience-goer reaching for some Tylenol after the credits roll.
That's probably where the similarities end. Whereas "Inception" is the cinematic equivalent of a nesting doll, each layer opening to reveal another hidden dream world, "Salt" is a straightforward thrill ride — eschewing a densely layered plot and CGI wizardry for 90 minutes of chases, gunfire and catch-me-if-you-can theatrics.
MTV News has given chase since the beginning, following the rather odd journey of "Salt" from its inception to its arrival on the big screen. Before hitting the theater this weekend, check out our cheat sheet for everything you need to know about "Salt."
How Edwin Became Evelyn
"Salt" stars Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent specializing in Russian cat-and-mouse espionage. When a purported Russki defector shows up at headquarters and suggests Jolie is in fact a sleeper agent with plans to assassinate a world leader, she's forced to go on the run to clear her name. Unless, of course, she really is a double-agent ... duh duh duuuuh!
"Salt" keeps you guessing about Jolie's true identity, and the filmmakers themselves juggled various identities for her character as they struggled to get a green light for the picture. Evelyn Salt was originally Edwin Salt, back in 2007 when producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was trying to get Tom Cruise to play the part. But di Bonaventura couldn't get a studio to bite — until the filmmakers decided to switch the spy's gender and recruited Jolie to take on the role.
"You certainly have to do work on her character [in the script]," di Bonaventura explained to MTV News. "Yes, that was hard work. But it was even harder with the characters around her. First, we did her character and said, 'That works, but everyone else seems kind of off.' So then we had to go back and do everybody else. It was a much larger undertaking than we previously expected."
My, How You've Changed
Filming kicked off early in 2009, and we got our first look at Jolie as Salt early in March.
It wasn't until the fall, though, that the first trailer for the film dropped. What we saw was an A-lister in full-on action-hero mode: rigging MacGyver-style weapons, blowing up tons of stuff and throwing herself off freeways onto speeding trucks.
It looked like dangerous stuff, and it was: Jolie ended up with a bloody cut on her face after a particularly perilous stunt that got her a trip to the emergency room. But it was worth it for the type of realistic action she and director Phillip Noyce were gunning to achieve. Just check out Jolie flying onto that oncoming 18-wheeler, using a rejiggered fire extinguisher to blow away the authorities and tasering a cop in an effort to get him to drive his car off an overpass while she's still in the backseat.
There's a Badass in All of Us
"Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "Wanted" — Angelina Jolie has done the action-star thing before. But at this point in her life, with six kids at home, she took particular pleasure in her "Salt" stunt work.
"Maybe it's because I spend so much time at home with the kids that I really like to get out and jump on something and not be Mom for a bit," Jolie told MTV News. "My kids are watching and rooting for me, so I want to impress them and be cool."
It wasn't just the stunts that attracted Jolie to the role, but the chance to play a character with such complex allegiances — one who keeps you asking, "Whose side is she on?"
"Maybe that's why I liked it so much, getting to play this character," she said. "I got to be all different people all the time. I think there is [a complex] element to all of us. That's why we like espionage."
Then Jolie added: "There's a badass in all of us. I've certainly got mine."

Angelina Jolie Takes On Comic-Con
Hot on the promotional trail, Angelina Jolie was spotted out for the 'Salt' panel during Comic-Con 2010 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California on Thursday (July 22).
The lovely 35-year-old actress was decked out in black as she was escorted inside by security personnel to meet up with co-star, Liev Schreiber, as the pair greeted fans and media members at the annual convention showcase.
As for "Salt," the film is due in theaters tomorrow (July 23) with talk already focusing on a potential sequel.
When asked of the possibility, Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said, "I think it?s a little disingenuous if we say we?ve never thought about it. We?ve thought about it. Really, the truth is, we try not to spend very much time thinking about it because that?s usually the way -- everytime I?ve been involved wiith something where we thought that far ahead, it's usually when we got smacked in the side of the head. Because the truth is, the audience is going to decide whether there?s another one or not. In the various developments of the script, there have been different endings that indicated more where this story was going to go. So there are ideas out there.
To the same question, Angelina replied, "I think [Evelyn Salt] has depth and she can be so many people that the idea of what we could do with her and play -- there's a lot to play with as an actor."

Have you ever wanted to ask Rick Ross exactly what type of cream he uses to shave his head? Or maybe, how he keeps that signature beard so thick and well-groomed? Have you ever wanted to chat him up about his favorite pair of vintage Cazal sunglasses? Perhaps you have some real questions about how he parlayed his laid-back flow and easy cool to become one of the hardest lyricists in the game. On Friday at 1 p.m. ET, fans will have the chance ask Ross all of their questions directly during the first-ever edition of "RapFix Live," a live-stream series.
Ross will take questions instantly from a live Twitter feed and fans will be able to watch an unedited, real-time interview with the hip-hop heavyweight. The discussion will be moderated by MTV News' Sway, but the conversation is really in the hands of the fans. In addition to the live-stream series, hip-hop fans will be able to satisfy all of their music needs with the official launch of MTV's RapFix blog, at RapFix.MTV.com, on August 2.
Ross has already established himself as a major Web force with mixtapes like his The Albert Anastasia EP, which is packed with street hits, including "Blowin' Money Fast (B.M.F.)" and "MC Hammer." And earlier this year, Ross told MTV News that he always keeps his Net following in mind and would continue to create his popular online-only videos saying, "You know we'll never stop releasing those black-and-whites, those virals."
With the "RapFix Live" stream, Ross fans, whose main access to the star was via those black-and-white visuals and lyrically potent mixtapes, can chop it up with the MC in a very accessible yet unique viral capacity. The Ross event will kick off a new series of live streams featuring some of the biggest artists in hip-hop today. Hip-hop heads will have the opportunity to have live conversations with the rappers who are changing the game.
What do you want to ask Rick Ross during the live stream? Let us know in the comments below!

Catch Rick Ross on the "RapFix Live" stream on Friday at 1 p.m. ET!

JWoww Didn't Always 'Fit In,' On 'When I Was 17'
'Me, at 17, was not the most popular,' the 'Jersey Shore' star recalls of her high school days.By Jocelyn Vena

JWoww bonded instantly with her roommates when she moved into the house in Seaside Heights on the "Jersey Shore," but the girl also known as Jenni Farley didn't always have the most luck making friends. Back in the day, JWoww was just looking for a way out of high school.
"Me, at 17, was not the most popular. It was weird in my high school. I didn't really fit in any clique," she says in this Saturday's episode of "When I Was 17," which also features her "Jersey Shore" castmates the Situation and Pauly D. "I kind of bounced around. I really didn't fit in. I wasn't comfortable there."
JWoww eventually hatched a plan to work really hard and finish school early.
"I was just like, 'I got to leave early. I got to do what I can to start my life,' " she recalled. "I only had two classes left in my senior year, so I doubled up in 11th grade and left school a year early. High school just wasn't for me. I just couldn't wait to get out."
When JWoww wasn't plotting her post-high school life, however, she was busy trying to strike out at her local bowling alley.
"When I was 17, my best fried Trina got me into bowling," she explained about her hobby. "It was just something to do. You weren't old enough to go out and drink and have a good time. I was actually really good."
The whole "Jersey Shore" gang will be back for season two — which begins on July 29 — and season three!
"When I Was 17" — this week featuring JWoww, Pauly D and the Situation — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
Season two of "Jersey Shore" premieres Thursday, July 29, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Be there!

Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Postpartum Depression
It?s very common among new mothers, and Gwyneth Paltrow is the first to admit she?s battled with postpartum depression.
Of her son?s April 2006 birth, the ?Shallow Hall? actress wrote in her latest GOOP newsletter, "When my son, Moses, came into the world in 2006, I expected to have another period of euphoria following his birth, much the way I had when my daughter was born two years earlier. Instead I was confronted with one of the darkest and most painfully debilitating chapters of my life."
Ms Paltrow says she later found out "for about five months I had what I can see in hindsight as postnatal depression."
Also pitching in on the newsletter to reveal her struggles with postpartum, ?New Moon? star Bryce Dallas Howard said, "In those moments after giving birth, I felt nothing," she says, explaining that she hardly recalls giving birth.
She says she called her son (with husband Seth Gabel) "it" instead of by his name, and couldn't bring herself to breastfeed at times because of the pain.

Selita Ebanks Backs Donald Trump
Putting her two cents in on a situation familiar to her, Selita Ebanks doesn?t blame former boss, Donald Trump, for nixing Rachel Uchitel from ?Celebrity Apprentice.?
On hand for the Target launch party in East Harlem on Tuesday (July 20), the Victoria?s Secret model told In Touch, ?I don?t know what kind of personality she has, but as far as we know, she slept with a married man! Donald knows what he?s doing. He?s a smart man.?
A day after the Tiger Woods mistress signed on for the upcoming season of ?Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew,? Mr Trump declared he was through with the Ms Uchitel. In a statement he said, "We no longer have interest in Rachel," adding that for every one spot on his ABC competition series, there are 10 interested candidates.
Instead, Uchitel will be joining Janice Dickinson, Jeremy London and former ?Hills? star Jason Wahler on the next season of VH1?s ?Celebrity Rehab.?

Updates about Lil Wayne's jail bid have been pouring in, and in recent weeks Wayne himself has taken to his website, WeezyThanxYou.com, to speak directly to his fans and chop it up about sports. Cash Money honcho Birdman said that the incarcerated superstar is keeping his head up as he rides out the rest of his sentence.
"Wayne in good [spirits], taking it one day at a time," Birdman told HipHollywood.com, adding that Weezy's camp has been diligent about supporting and visiting the locked-up Grammy winner. "Everybody there supporting him. The whole family there, we there every week. We write, send him pictures, do everything the family supposed to do. We just taking it day by day, working hard, because that's what he drive on. That's what we do."
Wayne is roughly midway through his yearlong sentence and, assuming he stays out of trouble, is expected to head home on November 4, according to the MC's prison records.
Like millions of the superstar's fans, the Cash Money boss is eagerly anticipating Weezy's return from Rikers Island. "He be home in a minute and we can't wait," Birdman said.
When Weezy does return he'll have a lot of business to tend to, including a $1.1 million tax bill. Young Money's Jae Millz recently told MTV News that Wayne might mark his return home by heading directly to the stage.
"I hear when he comes home, he's hitting the stage," Millz said. "I hope they let him keep his inmate uniform. He needs to come onstage with that, the whole Bruce Leroy [jail attire] and take it off and throw all the jewels on and tear it down for everyone. 'Cause they waiting for him."
