Less than two weeks after word broke that Anne Hathaway had joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," a second major piece of casting news has popped up.

According to Deadline New York, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in is talks to join the production. The casting move would reunite the 29-year-old with Nolan, with whom he worked on last year's twisty blockbuster "Inception."

There's no word yet what role Gordon-Levitt would play, but the report indicates that "he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring." Speculation will no doubt be rampant in the coming days as to what character the actor will play. Last summer, online rumors suggested he was a potential candidate to play the Riddler, but in October Nolan announced that the Riddler would not make an appearance in the new film.

Gordon-Levitt would become the third high-profile name to join "Dark Knight Rises." Hathaway is onboard to portray Selina Kyle, a well-established character in DC Comics lore who is the alter ego of Catwoman. And Tom Hardy, who signed onto the production last fall, was officially announced as stepping into the villainous shoes of Bane last month.

Filming on what is widely thought to be Nolan's final "Batman" film is expected to begin in May with an eye toward a July 2012 release date. By the spring of this year, according to Deadline, Gordon-Levitt's schedule will have freed up, following the completion of his work on "Looper," a sci-fi flick also starring Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.
