Whether she's arriving to the Grammys in a giant egg or rocking a meat dress, Lady Gaga is proudly a little bit out there. So it's not a huge surprise that the five-time Grammy winner gets a little herbal help when it's time to get creative with her catchy lyrics. In her 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper, the 24-year-old unabashedly admits to heavy drinking and marijuana use while composing her songs.
"I smoke a lot of pot when I write music, so I'm not gonna like sugar-coat it for 60 Minutes that, you know, I'm some, like, sober human being, because I'm not," she says. "I drink a lot of whiskey, and I smoke weed when I write. I don't do it a lot because it's not good for my voice."
The "Born This Way" singer realizes a lot of her young fans look up to her, and makes it clear she's not advocating illegal behavior. "I don't want to encourage kids to do drugs," she says. "But when you ask me about the sociology of fame and what artists do wrong, what artists do wrong is they lie. And I don't lie. I'm not a liar."
She proudly goes on to talk about the "goodwill" she's built with her fans. "They know who I am," she says of her devoutly loyal "little monsters." "I'm just like them in so many ways."
That might be true, but few of Lady Gaga's fans took home three Grammys Sunday night, including best pop vocal album for The Fame Monster. Think mother monster celebrated that Grammy gold with a little ganja green?
